秋田県北部エコタウン計画策定にいたる経緯

March 1994 Closure of non-metal mines (Matsumine, Fukazawa and Nurukawa) in Akita.
1995

The prefecture launches a project to promote industries to replace mining.
Ministry of International Trade (MITI) and Industry begins planning a Recycle Mine Park project.

1998 Akita's recycle mine park promotion committee draws up Northern Akita Eco-Town Project.
Nov. 1999 The Eco-Town Project is approved by MITI and the Environmental Agency.
Oct. 2004 Revision to the Eco-Town Project is approved by the two institutions.

●エコタウンエリアの広域性

Consists of nine municipalities in the northern area with recycling-oriented economies.
Municipalities in northern Akita (4 cities, 4 towns, and 1 village)
Cities: Noshiro, Kita-akita, Odate and Kazuno
Towns: Kosaka in Kazuno District and Mitane, Happo and Fujisato in Yamamoto District
Village: Kamikoani (Kita-akita District)
Area : 4,339.43 (40% of the total area of Akita Prefecture, 70% is mountainous)
Population / 258,873 (as of July 1, 2007)


●県北部地域基幹産業の活用

  • Metal recycling utilizing existing mining infrastructure and technologies, including metal smelting and ore processing
    Thinned wood, bark, waste wood, and sawdust from forestry, wood manufacturing, and construction industries
    Plastic waste from agricultural industry and secondary products from coal power stations such as coal ash and plaster
    Natural resources with environmental purification abilities that exist abundantly, such as zeolite and diatomite

●自然との共生

Harmonious coexistence with rich natural environment: World Natural Heritage Sirakami Sanchi, Towada-Hachimantai National Park, and Moriyoshi Prefectural Natural Park.
